Feed the Need Press Release 2020
Volunteers in Ocean Springs are thrilled to announce the 7th annual Feed the Need concert and fish fry benefiting The Lord Is My Help Soup Kitchen!
Ocean Springs, MS - A committed team of volunteers are making preparations for the 7th Annual FEED THE NEED benefit concert and fish fry, an annual fundraiser in downtown Ocean Springs. This year’s event will take place on April 19, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Government Street Grocery, with all proceeds benefiting The Lord Is My Help Food Kitchen (a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization) which feeds over 5,200 meals each month to the most disadvantaged residents in our community.
There are several performers on this year’s lineup including the critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Cary Hudson featuring Katrina Miller as well as the high-octane rock band Royal Horses. Also on the bill are local favorites Symone French, Hello Good Buddie and Della Memoria.
Feed the Need is a grassroots organization developed by a group of friends in 2013 after concerns for the local soup kitchen arose. “A few years ago some friends got together to discuss what we could do to help The Lord Is My Help. We found it very disconcerting the organization was lacking funds when they had such an important job to do: feed the folks who needed it most in our community,” said Feed the Need committee member and Lord Is My Help board member Kait Sukiennik. “We found what was most important to us, and we ultimately made our mission as the Feed the Need Committee to provide financial support through community events benefitting the Lord Is My Help. We ultimately came up with the music festival and fish fry, which is so fun! We are 100% volunteer based, and, just like with any event takes so much work, but it’s so worth it! We’ve built a fundraiser that brings the community together to help the community...and we couldn’t be more excited!”
This year's event is extra important to us as we will honor Mrs. Kay Woods, the founder and Executive Director of The Lord Is My Help, who just recently passed away. After working with the Peace Corps for three years, Mrs. Kay began forming The Lord Is My Help in Ocean Springs. Mrs. Kay founded the organization and was the Executive Director for over 36 years. When The Lord Is My Help was founded, approximately 400 meals were served to its patrons a month. Today, The Lord Is My Help serves over 5,000 meals a month. Feed the Need was created because of Mrs. Kay - Mrs. Kay knew that The Lord Is My Help was in need of additional funds to keep their doors open - and so it began!
As always, our event will be filled with family-friendly activities including a fish fry, live music, a kids play area, silent auction items, and raffle baskets. Tickets to the event will go on sale soon - only $15 in advance - and can be purchased from both committee members and local businesses such as The Government Street Grocery, The Greenhouse on Porter, Eat Drink Love Catering, Hillyer House and The Office in Ocean Springs. Tickets are also available for purchase online using the link below. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2020-7th-annual-feed-the-need-tickets-93383547705
The price will increase to $25 at the door, or $20 with the donation of a #10 canned good.
Sponsorship levels for the 2020 Feed the Need event are available and range from $100 - $5,000. For additional information about Feed the Need or sponsorships, please contact Sarah Reese at 228-860-7278 or email@example.com.
