Feed the Need Press Release 2018

Volunteers in Ocean Springs are thrilled to announce the 5th annual Feed the Need concert and fish fry benefiting The Lord is My Help Soup Kitchen!

Ocean Springs, MS - A team of volunteers are making preparations for the 5th Annual FEED THE NEED benefit concert and fish fry to be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Government Street Grocery in downtown Ocean Springs. All proceeds will benefit The Lord Is My Help Soup Kitchen, which feeds over 5,200 meals each month to the neediest residents in our community.

There are several performers on this year’s lineup including the critically acclaimed Cary Hudson with Katrina Fisher, Grayson Capps with Corky Hughes, and Brooks Hubbert; along with local favorites Blackwater Brass, Brightside, Bambi Trochesset, Paul Cat & Friends, and Drive By Pillow Fight.

Feed the Need is a grassroots organization developed by a group of friends in 2013 after concerns for the local soup kitchen arose. “A group of friends got together and discussed what we could do to assist The Lord Is My Help with their mission of feeding the needy in our community,” said committee member Sarah Reese. “The main goal of Feed the Need is to provide financial support to The Lord Is My Help so they can continue feeding our neighbors in need. Our event is 100% volunteer based and takes months of planning - but we love it! Our committee members feel blessed to take part in such a rewarding and fun fundraiser that gives back to the community.  Our event continues to grow and this year we are very excited to announce we are partnering with Port Orleans Brewing Co. out of New Orleans!”

This year’s event will be filled with family-friendly activities including a fish fry, live music, a kids play area, silent auction items, and raffle baskets. Port Orleans Brewing Co. will have select draft beers for sale as well and all profits are donated to the Lord Is My Help.   Tickets to the event will go on sale the second week in April - $15 in advance - and can be purchased from committee members and at local businesses such as The Government Street Grocery, The Greenhouse on Porter, Eat Drink Love Catering, Hillyer House, The Office, & The Inn in Ocean Springs. Tickets are also available for purchase online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/feed-the-need-2018-tickets-44408327503?aff=es2. Tickets will increase to $25 at the door, or $20 with the donation of a Number 10 canned good.

Sponsorship levels for the 2018 Feed the Need event are available and range from $100 - $1,000.  For additional information about Feed the Need or sponsorships, please contact Liz Sekul at 228.596.5198.
